HISTORY
GENERATIONS OF AUCTIONEERING: THE HAMPSON HERITAGE
Our story began more than 40 years ago, with Geoffrey Hamilton, whose passion for rare and desirable motor vehicles lead him to accumulate a huge and extraordinary collection, including Jaguar E-types, Bentleys, Ferraris, Aston Martins, and AC Cobras.
By 1987 Geoffrey had turned that enthusiasm into a business, when he founded Hampson’s Motor Trust & Auction House in Winsford, Cheshire, with his nephew Mark. Housing more than 150 cars, it was said to be ‘the largest classic and investment car showroom in Europe’.
Between 1987 and 1993, Hampson’s Motor Trust & Auction House thrived, selling and acquiring remarkable vehicles and building a fine reputation. Although Geoffrey officially retired in 1989, such was his passion for these fabulous machines and his love for the business, that he couldn’t resist still lending a helping hand occasionally.
Mark would go on to found H&H auctions and, fast-forward to 2020, Geoffrey’s legacy continued when his great-nephew, Zach, revived Hampson’s Auctions with a renewed focus on excellence and tradition, poised to pass the baton to the next generation.
Geoffrey Hamilton’s enthusiasm and knowledge of the industry continues to flow through his family. In re-establishing Hampson Auctions, Zach Hamilton and his team are again connecting vendors and buyers across our global customer base.
