Our second sale of 2024, on 12 May, saw yet another bustling saleroom in the splendid surroundings of Bolesworth Castle. Bidding was brisk and enthusiastic and, when the final hammer fell, some 63% of the lots had found new homes, with a sale total of £608,000.  Further negotiations post-sale are currently securing new owners for several others.

Highest price of the day was the £66,375 paid for the quite exceptional 1973 Ford Escort RS1600. This concours-quality machine, which comes complete with Motorsport UK Historic Technical Passport, has been professionally constructed to FIA historic GP4 specification. The no-expense-spared build included being fitted with a zero-hour Wayne Mitchell BDG engine.

Notable lots included the 1956 DB2/4 MkII restoration project, which was offered at No Reserve and sold for £45,000.  For fans of early post-War David Brown Aston Martins, this was a rare and exciting chance to secure an unrestored DB2/4, with a recent engine rebuild putting the new owner one step ahead in their journey to return this highly original machine to its former glory.

The 1976 Land Rover Lightweight Series III which went under the hammer has a captivating history, having been acquired by the present owner while he was working in Saudi Arabia in 2001. He bought the car for approximately £600 and then drove it to the UK through Jordan, Syria, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Switzerland and France in an epic, month-long road trip in which vehicle and owner braved the elements and overcame countless mechanical and bureaucratic challenges. This left-hand drive example has now been fully restored and now has a new owner to take it on another great adventure. Offered at No Reserve, it achieved a very respectable £10,406.

Also offered at No Reserve, the ‘timewarp’ 1996 Golf GTi was much fought-after, the successful bidder securing the car for £9,281. This highly original, one-family-ownership car has a warranted 42,000 miles from new.

And a Ferrari fan was delighted to acquire the 1988 Mondial QV for £24,750. In need of light recondition, this had also been offered at No Reserve.

All prices shown include buyer’s premium.
