The first sale in Hampson’s new premium online auction offering, Marketplace, goes live at 10am this Friday, 24 January and runs until 7pm on Sunday, 2 February. Marketplace gives vendors a new way of selling supercars, performance and classic cars, motorcycles and registrations while also supporting a children’s charity.

Hampson Managing Director Zach Hamilton said: “This innovative online auction platform is designed to complement our renowned physical sales held at Oulton Park and Bolesworth Castle in Cheshire. As the only privately family-owned auction house in the region, we bring a strong family ethos and decades of expertise as specialists in performance and supercars to this new venture. In addition to offering a diverse range of cars, Hampson Marketplace will include fast bikes, ensuring an exceptional experience for enthusiasts. We are especially delighted to support this initiative in partnership with a charity dedicated to helping children and their families navigate the challenges of cancer—a cause that resonates deeply with our values.”

Entries in the inaugural Marketplace sale include a stunning 2022 Porsche 992 Carrera 4 GTS, a potent 2011 Mitsubishi Evo X and an impressive 1975 Ford Escort RS2000.  Rarities on offer include a supercharged 1987 Toyota MR2 (a model not offered for sale in the UK and Europe) and a 2013 Renault Megane Red Bull coupe, number 14 of just 30 produced. Two-wheeled lots going under the virtual hammer include a 1977 Honda CB550 once owned and fully restored TV presenter and renowned motorcycle enthusiast, Henry Cole, a 2001 Yamaha R6, 2016 Ducati Panigale 959 and 2016 Ducati Panigale 1199, plus a trio of classic Ariels – a 1946 SQ4, 1958 Huntmaster and 1958 Redhunter. There’s even a ready-to-race Jawa speedway bike.

Buyers can view the lots and bid live online 24/7. Each listing includes a full description and comprehensive selection of photographs, and interested parties can also request a Condition Report, including a detailed video, or even book an appointment to view the vehicle in person at Hampson’s headquarters in Cheshire.

Vehicles and cherished registrations will be showcased to Hampson’s global audience for ten days, giving fantastic exposure, further supported by listings on Hampson’s channels with The Saleroom, Bid Spotter and i-Bidder and promotion in Hampson’s e-newsletters and popular media channels. There’s no seller’s commission to pay – just a flat entry fee – and the 7% buyer’s premium makes Marketplace an attractive place to shop as well as to sell.

Hampson will split that 7% buyer’s premium, donating 1% of the hammer price of each lot to The Joshua Tree, a Cheshire charity supporting families affected by childhood cancers. So, each sale really will make a difference.

Ending 2024 – and driving into 2025 – in style

Hampson entered the new year after finishing 2024 in style, with 78% of the nearly 100 lots which went under the hammer at Bolesworth Castle on 24 November find new homes. This was the icing on the cake of a year which saw sale percentages rise steadily, a successful shift in focus on the types of lots on offer, the launch of the new premium online auction offering, Hampson Marketplace, a new association with The Joshua Tree charity and a tie-in with renowned supercar specialist and restorer and YouTuber, Cheshire’s Iain Tyrrell.

The 78% sale figure set in November continued the upward trend which ran throughout the year for Hampson’s bucking the general trend elsewhere and resulting in a 70% sale average across 2024.

Zach Hamilton commented: “One reason why we’ve seen this steady percentage growth has been our focus on ensuring we offer ever higher-quality vehicles in our sales. We’re attracting higher numbers of high-end supercars and performance cars, along with some very desirable classics, and our bidders are responding to that. That focus on increasing quality also applies further down the price scale – we also welcome the opportunity to offer excellent examples of lower-priced classic and performance cars, which allow enthusiasts to get into collector car ownership, without needing a large budget.”

“We’re also delighted with our new association with Iain Tyrrell, one of the world’s foremost exotic classic car experts. Iain’s YouTube channel, Iain Tyrrell’s Classic Workshop, has a huge following, and the preview videos he has started to do for our sales give us tremendous exposure. We look forward to this continuing in 2025.”
